Carrier Hiryuu (LN)

The Hiryuu is a new type of ship, modeled after the aircraft carrier of Earth and is considered as revolutionary in terms of naval warfare. Its innovations include the ability to use wyverns in battle over large expanses of water and the ability to to propel itself without the use of Sea Dragons.

History[]

After taking the throne, Kazuya Souma immediately began raising funds and resources in order to begin building the carrier. It was all a part of his plan to enrich the Elfrieden Kingdom, strengthen its military and act as a trump card against the Gran Chaos Empire, should the need arise. It was also seen as an opportunity to test new technologies and theories, such as utilizing wyverns at sea and to create an alternate means of propelling a ship through the water without the outdated use of Sea Dragons.

After the One Week War and the dissolution of the three Duke forces, Kazuya would later introduce Castor Vargas to the concept of the carrier and appoint him as the captain.

The namesake of the carrier is Imperial Japanese Navy aircraft carrier Hiryuu.

Design[]

The Hiryuu shape is generally long and narrow, much like that of a World War II carrier. The top portion is covered in trees, soil and other foliage, giving it the appearance of a small island. The bridge of the ship is inside a small mountain and covered in Roman Concrete. The vessel is divided into three levels and each level can be reached via a simple, manual elevator. The top level can be seen from the outside and is covered in forest to give its island-like appearance. There are a few buildings which are used for housing of troops and equipment.

The second level is labeled as Cave Entrance, and is used to simulate the cave nest areas of the wyverns. This is also where breeding and raising of wyverns occur.

The lower level is the hull of the ship, where military research is done, such as testing of new weapons and armor. The hull is also where the several Little Susumu devices are placed at the stern, thereby allowing the ship to propel itself. Currently, the propulsion and maneuverability of the carrier is slow and it still being worked on.

Usage[]

The Hiryuu would make its international debut and first see naval combat during the Battle of the Parent and Child Islands in 1549. The sight of the vessel caused initial panic amongst the Nine Headed Dragon Archipelago fleet during the standoff before its contingent of wyvern cavalry was turned on Ooyamizuchi.

Innovations[]

  • Wyverns are trained to view the carrier as an island, thereby conquering their fear of flying over great expanses of water. As a result, the ship is able to attack beyond visual range and has a greater reconnaissance distance
  • The carrier does not require Sea Dragons to propel itself and gains better maneuverability once the Little Susumu devices are improved on.
  • The training of dratroopers or dragon paratroopers.
  • Usage of Little Susumu Propulsion devices to improve the speed and range of the wyverns.
